Newsletter september 2017
This week was the anticlimax after the tremendous workload of organizing and preparing the celebrations of the 25-year anniversary of Misión Adulam.
We had three celebrations: the first in a lovely room in a 5-star hotel with the presence of many authorities. We remembered among other things that a total of 98 people worked in Misión Adulam and that we were able to help over 1005 children, teenagers, adolescents and couples. In this effort the authorities, volunteers and different organizations have played an important role and still do!
Three days later we were in a church and had a thanksgiving service for the Lord. The group of senior citizens of the church sang, as well as two other groups who lead us in worship. Special in this service was the presence of Henny, my friend who works as missionary in Tarata. And then the dance group Kairos, what a blessing to see them standing with us in the spiritual realms, through dance. We also celebrated with the residents, with a lovely meal accompanied by the music of a Mariachi band that a friend brought along.
Now we are catching our breath and thanking all the friends who helped us. Because we couldn’t and can’t accomplish the work of Mission Adulam without help – including yours!
Saturday we had a first meeting with parents of the children we work with in Jesed. Six women and a man, with children (grandchildren in 1 case) who are not making the marks in school or are on the edge of getting into addictions. Their sincere questions and doubts gave us a chance to give them suggestions, we hope to meet with these parents on a monthly basis. Several children have concentration problems and some are really behind with math and language, which won’t help to finish the schoolyear well.
Prayer for a wider base of funds is also needed, we are not able to cope as things are now. There is an increasing demand for us to deal with children and youth with serious problems, needing more involvement of professionals and professional diagnostics. Right now, we have a boy who really should have a brain scan for us to know how help him better. We will do this, but this is only one of the more complicated cases that come to us. For the children, we had to hire another teacher and a part-time psychologist.
Then this week we expect to hear if we will be given another group of people to support. We want to be available to these people and approach them in the love of the Lord! This is a very interesting development, but financially this is also really difficult as we will probably not get any compensation for this either.
A comfort in this difficult time financially is that the Lord knows this all and the He is with us!
All the same I want to ask you to prayerfully consider if you can help us, either as a one-off or on a regular basis?
Finally a personal comment: I am very glad that in the third week of September I can go visit the new Mennonite colony! For my body it will be good to leave the altitude for a bit also, the colony is in the lowlands.
Bye, this comes with warm greetings, may the Lord bless you, Fineke and teams.
